Potency Level: High
Difficulty Level: Low
Species: Psilocybe Amazonian
PES Amazonian is considered a great option for beginners due to its potency, ease of growth, and the fact that it often yields multiple impressive flushes. It is reported that the species has long been used by indigenous cultures and ancient civilizations of the Amazon rainforest to help them attain a degree of spiritual enlightenment.
Look:
Cap: The cap of an Amazonian mushroom is typically a light golden-brown to dark brown color, often with a more pronounced, wavy edge as it matures. When the cap first opens, it’s more conical, but it flattens out with age. The size of the cap is moderate, usually 1.5 to 3 cm in diameter.
Stem: The stem is typically tall and thick, usually white or off-white, often bruising blue when damaged due to the presence of psilocybin.
Spore print: The spore print is usually dark purple to black, which is common for most Psilocybe cubensis strains.
Growing Environment:
Temperature: Amazonian mushrooms grow best at temperatures around 75-80°F (24-27°C). They thrive in warm, humid conditions, making them ideal for subtropical environments.
Substrate: Like other cubensis strains, they are typically grown on substrates like brown rice flour and vermiculite (BRF cakes), or bulk substrates like manure or straw in a controlled environment.
Humidity: A high level of humidity (85-95%) is crucial for their growth, so maintaining a moist environment is important.
Light: While they don’t require direct sunlight, they do need indirect light to trigger fruiting. A few hours of light exposure daily is typically sufficient.
Airflow: Good airflow helps prevent contamination and promotes healthy growth, but avoid excessive wind or drying out of the substrate.
They are known to be relatively resilient and forgiving, which makes them a popular choice for beginner cultivators.
